Want to help others at no cost to you and get rid of some clutter at the same time? You probably have lots of stuff around the house that holds little value for you, but can do a lot of good for others. You could also be helping yourself with a nice tax deduction. The fair market value of all those donations can add to a substantial sum. Links to the sites discussed in this article can be found on the Help Others for Free page. You are probably aware that Goodwill Industries collects used items in good condition to resell in their stores. That is a great place to get started, but there are quite a few other ways to turn your trash to treasure for others. Are you one of the many cell phone users that frequently changes cell phone companies to get a better deal? If so, you probably have one or more cell phones that you can no longer use. These can be donated for use by people who are at risk for domestic violence. You don't need to let those cell phones sit around the house unused. Everyone has a stash of old greeting cards. St. Jude's Ranch for Children has a great program in which the children transform used greeting cards into new ones. They earn money for college and other savings as well as some spending cash. That is truly turning trash to treasure. You can donate General Mills product box tops or Campbell's labels to help your local school purchase supplies and equipment. If you don't use a lot of these products yourself, you can start a collection drive in your neighborhood and really make a difference. For more details about these programs and more, be sure to check out the Help Others for Free page. Be sure to check the last link on that page and learn when, where, and why donation of goods is not always welcome. |
