Favorite Free E-Zines

First things first. What is an E-Zine? There are at least two definitions depending on who is doing the defining. The term probably originated from from "fanzines" which are independently published paper magazines or newsletters. Therefore, an E-Zine would be the electronic equivalent of these. I am using the broader definition under which any type of electronic newsletter or magazine is called an E-Zine.

If there is one thing that the Internet does extremely well, it is provide a means for anyone to publish anything. This is great, but it also means that along with the useful or interesting electronic publications there are many useless and boring ones. This will, hopefully, help you find some of the more useful and interesting publications.

Now on to my favorites!

Freebies Features Newsletter Yes, indeed, this is a shameless plug for my own free newsletter! The subscription page gives all of the details, but in short you will get some of the "Net finds" before they appear on the Web site.
Lockergnome's Free E-Zines
This is my number one choice for personal favorite E-Zine. There are two versions. The one that I subscribe to is primarily devoted to useful files, news and other information relating to Windows 95 and NT. I have not seen the Macintosh version of the newsletter. The author of Lockergnome, Chris Pirillo, adds a little twist of humor to information that would normally be pretty dry. There is also a quality that I can't quite put my finger on that makes Lockergnome stand out. Perhaps it is a little gnome magic. The circulation of the Windows 95/NT newsletter is over 100,000 and growing. I would guess that I am not alone in seeing something special about Lockergnome.
Woody's Office Watch (WOW) If you use Microsoft Office this is one that you don't want to miss. Woody Leonhard, who writes WOW, is also a contributing editor and columnist for PC/Computing Magazine. Woody has also written quite a number of books on Microsoft Word and other computer subjects. In addition to the invaluable information in WOW, what I enjoy most about this E-Zine is Woody's no-nonsense style. Woody does not pull any punches about the bad as well as the good aspects of Microsoft Office and Microsoft in general. I have a lot of respect for this little E-Zine. As and added bonus Woody picks prize winners every month from his subscriber list.
The Kleinman Report
Here is a brief newsletter that I would really miss if I could no longer get it for some reason. I have subscribed to Geoffery Kleinman's E-Zine for a long time. Mr. Kleinman provides outstanding links with short, but insightful descriptions of each. There is almost always at least one of these sites that makes it to my bookmarks.
