When I go out to eat I like to have a soft drink or iced tea with my meal. As much as I have tried, I just don't like drinking plain water. On the other hand, I like keeping costs down and often end up drinking water anyway. I've discovered a delightful way to have a tasty flavored drink with dinner for free.
Lemon anyone?
My little free drink recipe discovery is something of a new twist on a common practice. Most restaurants serve lemon slices with water. I usually, like many others, squeeze a little lemon juice into the glass. This tends to make the water a little more palatable, but hardly makes it a flavorful drink. Recently, I have been making another addition to the water, resulting in a very enjoyable lemon flavored drink recipe.
A new twist
The secret to this little drink recipe is a packet or two of sweetener. You can use sugar or an artificial sweetener as you like. I may not be the first to do this, but I'm wagering that many of you have never tried it. You have probably thought, as I have, that a pack of sweetener and a twist of lemon would make for a pretty lousy weak lemonade drink recipe. If the aim were to make lemonade, that would be a good assumption.
Two slices please
If, however, you think more in terms of those expensive flavored waters you can buy, you will start to appreciate the potential of this cheapskate's free drink recipe. I've done a little experimenting to find the best balance of lemon and sweetener for my tastes. You may want to use this the starting point for your own free drink recipe experiments. If the restaurant serves a ten or twelve ounce glass of water, ask for an extra slice of lemon. I like to use two slices of lemon and squeeze as much juice into the water as I can. I add two packets of sweetener and stir well. This makes an amazingly refreshing drink. If you like a little more sweetness, you can mix two types of sweetener. For most people, mixing sweeteners enhances the sweetness. Enjoy!
