I've always enjoyed classical music for both the sheer enjoyment of the music and boost in concentration that is can bring while working. I've also recently discovered how much more pleasant my commute can be while listening to a few rich classical music selections playing.
Since I don't have an extensive classical music CD collection I set out to see if I could find a source of free legal classical music MP3 downloads. After finding mostly sites with just a few selections to download I finally stumbled upon the mother-load of classical MP3 downloads.
Classic Cat offers a huge and well organized list of links to sites with free classical music downloads. You can view the list sorted by composer or performer, or just search the whole site.
The files are not hosted on the Classic Cat site so you will be presented with links to sites of the individual performers. Some sites may have lower bandwidth than others, so it sometimes more productive to surf for the MP3 downloads in the wee hours of the morning.
