Google was the first major site to offer free email accounts with a gigabyte of storage. Now that Google has upped their Gmail storage to 2 gigabytes, Yahoo is playing catch-up and has raised their free email offering to one gigabyte.
It is nice to not need to worry about going over your email quota, and now you have more choices to feed your need for excessive email storage space.
It's about time that Google officially moves Gmail out of the beta stage and offers accounts without invitations from other members. If I were a gambler I'd start taking bets on how soon this will happen now that they have a serious competitor in the email storage arms race.
I'm going to go out on a limb (all be it a pretty thick one) and predict that Hotmail will increase their 250 megabyte limit to at least one gigabyte very soon. Isn't competition grand especially when the products are free?
